On May 16th, I will be walking in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides walk. It's a fundraiser which helps provide vital research and resources for those living with this all-encompassing disease.
In my 6-plus years as a nurse caring for patients with CF, I've seen patients get new lungs, go to college, and start families of their own. I've also seen patients suffer and die. It's a disease that affects nearly every part of the body in some way, and there is no cure. I've also seen the amazing results of new research/new drugs that give my patients a body that can almost function normally. Meds like Trikafta, a drug that targets CF at the gene level, keeps my patients out of the hospital, off of supplemental oxygen, gain weight, and LIVE. Funds raised through the CF Foundation helped create these medications.
The median life expectancy of a person with CF is ~47 years old. From my personal experience, those people are the lucky ones. I can only wish that most of my patients will live that long. I'm walking to help the CF Foundation work toward the goal of making CF stand for "Cure Found."
Please join me in the walk or donate whatever you can. Either way, I will be immensely grateful for your generosity.
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who struggle every day just to breathe. I walk for them. Will you join me and support my fundraising goal?
Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. We’ve come so far, but there’s still so much work to do. I will not stop striding until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. Will you join me? Please consider donating to my Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
