About our Xtreme Hike

We can’t wait to bring the CF community together for Xtreme Hike! For our 2021 Yosemite Xtreme Hike, we have two trails hikers can choose from:

Trail 1: This year, we will be reaching for the clouds and summiting one of Yosemite’s most impressive peaks, Clouds Rest. Hikers will embark on the Mist Trail from Yosemite Valley (4000 ft) and hike 4 miles until they reach Nevada Falls. On the journey up to Nevada Falls, hikers will see views of Vernal Fall and will hike behind the famous Half Dome. From Nevada Falls, hikers will travel through Little Yosemite Valley, to the John Muir Trail and then all the way up to Clouds Rest at an impressive 9927 ft. At Cloud’s Rest, hikers will be able to see a full panorama view of the breathtaking Yosemite National Park and will even be able to look down on Half Dome! This is an out and back trail, so hikers will return the same way they came up. The hike is about 22 miles round trip with approximately 6000 ft of elevation gain.

Trail 2: For our second trail option, hikers will embark on the Mist Trail from Yosemite Valley (4000 ft) and hike about 4 miles until they reach Nevada Falls. From Nevada Falls. On the journey up to Nevada Falls, hikers will see views of Vernal Fall and will hike behind the famous Half Dome. From Nevada Falls, hikers will continue to Little Yosemite Valley Camp where they will enjoy the beautiful views of the lake and wilderness. Hikers will loop around the lake and then head back to the valley floor. This hike is about 10 miles with approximately 2300 ft in elevation gain.

The safety of our community is our first priority and we will continue to evaluate the status of the event moving forward. Events may be subject to change at any time, based on health concerns, including concerns based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials.

Register today and stay up to date on how our chapter plans to safely bring the community together and make CF stand for Cure Found.

The Hiker’s Journey

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Xtreme Hike program is about reaching new heights physically and philanthropically.  It is a journey of passion, determination, and personal triumph, as much as it is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people with cystic fibrosis.

The journey starts the moment you sign up. You will receive personal coaching, participate in training hikes – even virtually - and connect with a community of people who share your aspiration to reach new heights.

How Do I Participate?

Register. Register and participate virtually or safely in-person in this year’s Yosemite Xtreme Hike event and help us stay the course and advance our mission in an uncertain time. Here are registration options:

Register to hike safely in-person. We are excited to be hosting a one day in-person local hike experience.  With the safety and well-being of our community in mind we will require that all those who wish to attend must register on our website, no walk-up registration will be available. Select “Hiker” when registering for the event.

Register as a Virtual Hiker. While we may not be together in person, we will be together in spirit, showing the strength of our community and passion to find a cure for all people living with cystic fibrosis. Select “Virtual Hiker” when registering for the event.

Recruit. Recruit others to participate with you! Friends, family, and co-workers can join you virtually from anywhere in the world.

Fundraise. Fundraise online by leveraging the tools in the Participant Center, the Fight CF mobile app, and Fundraise on Facebook to reach your goal. Create a virtual passion fundraising event by developing a fundraising event through your favorite hobby, activity, or passion.

Suggested Fundraising Minimum: $2,500

Share your Journey. Wear a Xtreme Hike shirt, team shirt, or your Cystic Fibrosis Foundation branded apparel, while you train and hike on your own local trail or within your neighborhood!  Track your activity on the Fight CF mobile app so you can hike with others participating in the event. Share how you decided to hike this year by sharing your story and posting a selfie on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Make sure to tag the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (@CF_Foundation) and our local chapter at (@CFFNorthernCalifornia) and (@CFFSacramento) and use the hashtag #XtremeHike to keep the energy and momentum going strong!

What makes the Xtreme Hike Unique?

Since 2012, the Northern California Xtreme Hike has hiked over 159 miles in iconic locations including Yosemite National Park & Lake Tahoe and raised over $750,000 in support of finding a cure to cystic fibrosis. For our 10th year, we will be hiking The Cloud Rest Trail in the beautiful Yosemite National Forest. Join us on this amazing journey to view new sights and climb higher heights.

As the name states, this is a challenge of xtreme proportions. For many, you are committing to hiking further and raising more money than you have ever done before. As participants prepare for the physical challenge, hikers are encouraged to raise $2500 through their personal and social media campaigns. Not to worry, we are here to support you every step of the way!

You will not want to miss this opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and challenge each other to help cure cystic fibrosis one step at a time!

Hikers ages 16 and up may participate. Click here to read the full Hiker Age Policy.
