About Xtreme Hike
Welcome to Xtreme Hike Yosemite 2020. Xtreme Hike is about reaching new heights – physically and philanthropically. It’s a journey of passion, determination and personal triumph, as much as it’s an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people with Cystic Fibrosis.
Yosemite Valley South Rim/Panorama Trail/Mist Trail Extreme Hike
We will enjoy a gentle walk through Yosemite Valley across the Merced River to the trailhead of the 4 Mile Trail. We will then journey through time and follow in the footsteps of Yosemite’s earliest visitors along the 4 Mile Trail that leads from Yosemite Valley to Glacier Point. The hike gains over 3000 feet as we make our way up the challenging switchbacks with views of Half Dome, the Tenaya Canyon, and the high mountain peaks of the Eastern Border of the park.
At Glacier Point we will have Yosemite’s best view of Half Dome. If you opt for the shorter route, you will begin your day from Glacier Point. From there, we will ascend 900 feet over the next mile to Sentinel Dome. We’ll catch our breaths on the summit of Sentinel Dome, and have breathtaking panoramic views of all of Yosemite. We will then descend to the top of Nevada Falls from Glacier Point, where we can explore Yosemite Valley’s all-year waterfall. The Mist Trail is famous for soaking its visitors in late spring but is often considered the Valley’s most scenic because it uncovers the most beauty per square mile. After visiting Nevada and Vernal Falls, we will descend the giant granite steps down to Happy Isles and finish our day at Curry Village.
Total Distance - 18 miles (4500 ft) or 13 miles (1250 ft) of elevation gain

What makes the Xtreme Hike Unique?
Since 2012, the Northern California Xtreme Hike has hiked over 144 miles in iconic locations including Yosemite National Park & Lake Tahoe and raised over $670,000 in support of finding a cure to cystic fibrosis. For our 9th year, we will be return to Yosemite. Join us on this amazing journey to view new sights and climb higher heights.
As the name states, this is a challenge of xtreme proportions. For many, you are committing to hiking further and raising more money than you have ever done before. As participants prepare for the physical challenge, hikers are encouraged to raise $2,500 through their personal and social media campaigns. Not to worry, we are here to support you every step of the way!
On Hike weekend you will embark on a trail specially designed for our group by YExplore, keeping challenge and experience in mind. YExplore will also guide our group, leading them safely throughout the trail from beginning to end. Xtreme Hike is topped off with a finishers’ dinner Saturday evening and a victory breakfast and awards ceremony on Sunday morning. You will not want to miss this opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and challenge each other to help cure cystic fibrosis one step at a time!
