My Xtreme Hike Story
It's now a whole decade that Chrissy and I have been hiking to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation! First, thank you to everyone who has given in prior years to this cause that is so important to me and my family. Also, we're tremendously grateful for the little community of fellow hikers that has formed around this fundraiser and the professional staff of our Metro DC Chapter who have led and organized us so effectively.
If you're not already familiar with my story, we lost my older brother Matt and my youngest sister Sarah to cystic fibrosis (CF). CF is a rare disease caused by a genetic mutation. It prevents people from breathing and digesting food normally and frequently leads to life threatening lung infections. It used to be fatal in childhood for nearly everyone who had it, but early detection and effective therapies have made big improvements in lifespan and quality of life.
The CF Foundation has done amazing work, funding research and gaining FDA approval for new treatments that address our particular DNA mutation, and adding several more to the clinical trial pipeline. They have also been there to support my family in other practical ways over the years.
Please donate what you can and help me reach my goal of raising $3,500 for this important cause before we head to the trail on September 30th.
Thank you,
Dave
