My Xtreme Hike Story
As most of you know, I hike for my 21-year-old daughter Elena who was born with cystic fibrosis - a genetic, debilitating lung disease. Over the past 20+ years of CF care and fundraising, she has benefitted tremendously from your ongoing, loving, generous support! Thank you!
With your help, the CF Foundation has developed many drugs and therapies including the miraculous Trikafta - a drug that fixes CF at the cellular level to prevent or reduce life threatening symptoms. While on Trikafta, Elena no longer needed nebulized medications or PT. For other CF patients, Trikafta means no longer needing a lung transplant; being able to have children; walking without getting winded; ending CF related diabetes.... For all patients taking Trikafta, it means a longer, healthier life.
Unfortunately, Trikafta does come with the possibility of liver damage, so Elena has been off Trikafta since last July until her liver enzymes are normalized. Her lungs remain very strong, but CF has always affected her digestive system more than her respiratory system. Elena is a fighter though! She will beat this set back, heal her liver, and continue to thrive.
We would love for you to help Elena with her fight by donating and/or hiking in this year's Xtreme Hike.
