My Xtreme Hike Story
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who fight for their breath.
One of these people is my brother. I hike for him, but I hike for all the people who are born with this devastating disease.
I am going to hike 26 miles in one day as a participant in the Xtreme hike for Cystic Fibrosis.
Cystic Fibrosis is a congenital disease. One in 40 Americans carry the gene. It affects the lungs, pancreas, kidneys, liver, intestines, and exocrine glands. There is no cure.
Enormous strides have been made in treating CF raising the average lifespan from 12 when my brother was born to soiid middle age in 2022. But the treatments don't work for everyone, not everyone can afford them, and there is no cure. I hike so that everyone will have access to treatment that works.
