My Xtreme Hike Story

Our son Wade was diagnosed with CF day 10 of being in the NICU. Wade is now 3 years old and thriving! Now this in no way means life is always easy, he does require routine maintenance to keep him healthy.  Everyday Wade's routine consists of the following:

- Airway clearance at least twice a day for 30 minutes (more frequently if sick)

- Enzymes with apple sauce before every meal or snack (this helps him absorb the nutrients)

- A multi-vitamin once a day

- Liver supplement

- Every 3 months he is seen by a team of CF Specialists at Cardinal Glennon (the appointments are lengthy for a toddler, sometimes lasting 3-4 hours)

- Routine bloodwork every 6 months.

As Wade grows up he may require additional medications and supplements.  This is why we are so thankful that Wade was born during a time where they are finding advancements in science, medications, and supplements.

Wade is the reason I will continue participating in these hikes.  I will not stop until their is a cure for my son and others continuing to fight this rare disease!!!!

On September 22 I will be participating in the 30 mile Xtreme Hike for CF. Our team Wade’s Warriors Cystic Fibrosis would like your help! 

There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who struggle every day just to breathe. I hike for them. Will you join me and support my fundraising goal?

Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. We’ve come so far, but there’s still so much work to do. I will not stop hiking until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. We will not leave anyone behind.
