My Hike Story

Dear Friends & Family, 

For those who may not know, my daughter, Amanda has a close friend, Tess who battles the disease, Cystic Fibrosis.  Since meeting Tess and her family in 2007, we have shown our solidarity through fundraising and advocating. This year, a bunch of us Moms (of Tess's friends) have come together again (with years lapsed in between) to reach new heights in the Xtreme Hike fundraising event. In order to be eligible to climb some of New York State’s 46 High Peaks as part of Team Tess, I must individually raise $2,500 and I need your help! At this point, I don’t know which task will be taller, the fundraising or climbing the mountains! 

For those who may not have yet been touched by this disease, Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, liver and other organs. I feel that it's also important to stress that CF is a life shortening disease and currently there is no cure. CF is a very complicated disease and symptoms vary from person to person. As people with CF are newly living longer than ever before (which is great news), the disease progressions have evolved to unnavigated waters, with the need for new studies and new treatments.

The Xtreme Hike is meant to mirror the challenges that my daughter's friend, Tess and her family has had to endure everyday. I am inspired by their strength and I hope you are too!
