My Xtreme Hike Story

40,000 people in the United States and 105,000 people worldwide have cystic fibrosis. Learning 21 years ago that my son, Gavin, was part of this group was the most difficult thing I have ever experienced. Those born with CF between 2003–2007 are expected to live 37 years. Discovering this, my heart ached for him.

Gavin’s battle with CF has had ups and downs. He’s spent weeks in the hospital, missed time with friends for treatments, and goes to the doctor more often and takes more pills daily than many 80 year olds. But he has also been very fortunate to live a full, normal life between those times. He’s in college now, managing his disease on his own and I could not be more proud of him. 

Gavin being in college and well is a direct result of the work of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and all their donors. The CF Foundation has funded development of breakthrough drugs which improve quality of life and have increased life expectancy.  Their mission though is a cure and you can help us get there.
