Our Xtreme Hike Story

Perseverance!!  That is the word I use to describe my daughter, Breanna. She was born with Cystic fibrosis, a rare, genetic, life-shortening disease that affects every organ in the body and makes breathing difficult. Some people with the disease say it’s like breathing through a narrow straw. Not only does it affect the lungs, it affects the digestive system.  

In October 2019, Breanna spent a month in the hospital due to infections which caused her to have to drop out of school. Once out of the hospital, she was on oxygen full time and in February 2020, she spent a week at Duke hospital being evaluated for a lung transplant. She also started on a new drug, trikafta which was funded thanks to donations like yours. Since starting on trikafta, she no longer needs oxygen and is able to work full time, work out with her boyfriend, Tim, and care for her two dogs, Marble and Willow.  She is why I hike.  

Our team is participating once again in the xtreme hike September 30, a powerful hike that brings together so many wonderful people.  Those who have a love one with cf, those who have lost someone with cf and those who have cf themselves.  We hike for all of them.
