My Xtreme Hike Story

Jennifer Walton and I became friends about 10 years ago - we met through a mutual friend.  During these years, I have come to love her and her family.  She and her husband, Russell, have two beautiful children - both living with cystic fibrosis.  This family’s resilience continues to amaze and inspire me.    

This will be my 8th extreme hike and it is by far the most humbling and meaningful event that I am fortunate enough to be able to participate in.  I have been so overwhelmed by the stories told from survivors and parents of children who have lost their battles with cystic fibrosis.  I have three healthy children and throw healthy grandchildren - I cannot imagine what parents of children with CF go through on a daily basis. I also cannot fully comprehend the resiliency of the children and adults who are fighting to survive.  You see, if you were to meet the Walton family, you would never know that they are tackling this disease head on.  They do not complain, demand sympathy or pity - they simply trust in God to lead them through this fight.  Their faith in Him continues to sustain them and they remain dedicated to finding a cure.

While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and too many lives are cut far too short. By participating in the CF Foundation’s Xtreme Hike, I am stepping up and helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis, like Josey and Ethan.  I truly believe that we are close to finding a cure.  Will you join me?
