My Xtreme Hike Story

After experiencing my first Xtreme Hike last year and being welcomed by so many other CF families, I know I want to do it again. It was tough both mentally and physically, but it was also one of the best experiences of my life. The reason I hike is for my daughter Abby. She was diagnosed with CF at birth and she’s days away from turning 12. She amazes me everyday and by the young lady she’s turning into. She loves spending time playing video games with her friends, teaching her dog tricks, and showing off her moves on the soccer field.

We have been fortunate that Abby has lived a pretty healthy life, which can be attributed to all the new therapies and medications created in recent history. These treatments would not be possible if it weren’t for the CF Foundation raising the funds for the research needed to invent these life saving treatments. However our job is not done. We are joyful that the average lifespan for CF keeps getting longer but  we can’t stop fundraising and bringing awareness until CF stands for Cure Found.

Please consider supporting me and Abby’s Corner this year while I try to tackle that mountain once again. You can support me with either a donation or a pledge per mile completed. Last year I completed 19.5 miles, but my goal this year is to complete all 26 miles. I am also looking for more teammates to join me on this hike. It is a fun and emotional experience. You can choose to either hike the full or half (13 miles). Please message me if you’d like to know more about joining the team.

Our team name was created about 7-8 years ago when we decided to participate for the first time at the Richmond Great Strides walk for CF. Christine and I wanted to incorporate something that Abby loved at that time (and still loves to this day) which was Winnie the Pooh. One day while watching one of our many Pooh bear movies, we came upon a scene that involved a special place in the Hundred Acre Wood called Pooh Corner. Pooh later renamed it to Pooh and Piglet Corner as a kind gesture to his best friend. We knew Abby’s Corner was a perfect choice by nodding to her favorite character but by also showing her that everyone that joins our team will forever be in her Corner.
