My Xtreme Hike Story
Well, here goes nothing! 30 miles in 1 day. When I tell people about what I have set out to do they ususally have two responses. One being you're crazy, but good for you. The other beign "why?" While this question may seem difficult to answer, for me it is not. This is something I have always wanted to do ever since my dad's first hike ten-ish years ago.
Since his first hike, my dad has rasied over $100,000 for CF, served as board chair of the Western Carolinas chapter, he has even flown to Arizona to complete the rim-to-rim grand canyon hike with the Arizona CFF chapter, but perhaps his greastest contribution of all, he has gotten my mom involved, as she now serves as the committee head for Western Carolina's CFF's Master Chefs event. Needless to say, CFF is a large part of my day to day family life, and this year I have decided that it is my time to stake my claim in the CFF family.
As a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, (May 2022) I have spent the past few months figuring out what adult life looks likes and how to balance a job, a social life, my perosonal health both mentally and physically, and what really motivates and inspires me. Monday through Friday you can find me in a classroom teaching 28 kindergarteners how to read, write, do math, and honestly just be good people. As I teach them how to be "good people" it has led me to challenge myself to also do good and leave places better than I have found them. So along with my family connection to CFF, this is a large reason for why I hike.
As I have already stated, I could not be more excited to be participating in the hike this year, and having my dad do it along side me is just the icing on the cake of this journey.
To put it in perspective, there are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who struggle every day just to breathe. I hike for them. So what I hope for is that you will join me and support my fundraising goal. Even if it is just a few dollars, every penny counts and is so grately appreciated!
Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. We’ve come so far, but there’s still so much work to do. I will not stop hiking until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. We will not leave anyone behind.
Please support me!
Together, we can make CF stand for Cure Found. Please help me reach my fundraising goal by donating to my Xtreme Hike fundraising campaign today!
