Our Xtreme Hike Story

On April 22nd, 2023 Team FiltersFast.com (Ray Scardigno, Peter Castello, Ray Hill and Dave Welch) will be hiking 30.1 miles IN ONE DAY on the Appalachian Trail near Damascus, VA to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Along the way, we will experience many challenges including training daily and hiking every weekend for 3 months to get ready for hike day. Hike day may bring cold weather, snow, rain, slippery trails, many thousands of feet of elevation gain climbing over multiple mountains, but none of that compares with the challenges facing those who have Cystic Fibrosis. For us, it is a one day challenge. For those with CF, it is an every day challenge of breathing treatments, medications, doctor's visits, infections and hospital visits. The life expectancy of someone born with CF has doubled in the last 30 years. Despite this progress, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies either because their disease is too advanced or because their specific genetic mutations will not respond. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers who struggle every day in the face of this devasting disease.
