My Xtreme Hike Story
I THINK I CAN, I THINK I CAN!!!!AND I DID!!!
AND I WANT TO DO IT AGAIN!!!!! I hope you will consider helping me!
Last year I did complete all 22 miles and felt every one of them by the time I finished!! I pushed through thinking of my kids (and all of those with CF) and the pain and discomfort they have felt in the past and continue to deal with...DAILY.
At the end of the event weekend we were in a group summing up our experience. Jamie, the event coordinator, said something that was emotionally overwhelming to me and really personalized what a cure would mean. She said imagine your loved one that has CF saying, "I used to have Cystic Fibrosis". I think about Kristi and Drew being able to say these words and what that would actually mean. No more treatments, no more pills, pills, pills everywhere, no more IV antibiotics, no more pain and discomfort....they would be absolutely free of these burdens! WOW!
Kristi, Drew and all CFers deserve to be able to say this. Your donation will get them all closer to this freedom!

I know most of you know my kids’ story, but I’d like to remind everyone that although strides have been made, the challenges of living with CF continue. The drug Trikafta, that both Kristi and Drew are fortunate enough to benefit from, is available because of the diligence of the people involved in the CF community to raise money for research. But the need for research funding desperately needs to continue. Although Trikafta, and other similar drugs, have significantly improved the lives of those who can obtain and benefit from them, it is still not a cure. Drugs are costly and the daily regimen of CF care continues. Regardless of the treatments available, there will always be an underlying current of uncertainty about the health and overall well being of those with CF. The only sure way to know that those living with CF get a chance at a life without dealing with the uncertainty of this progressive illness is to CURE it! This is why I am reaching out. In October, I am challenging myself to complete a CF Foundation fundraiser, appropriately called, the “Xtreme Hike”. It is a one day hike of 22 miles at Pilot Mountain. I am hoping that my ‘training’ will be enough to get me through this hike, but thoughts of things my kids (and all CF’ers) have to endure as they have lived and continue to live with CF can be an incredible motivator. If you are in any way able to or inclined to support me for this hike, I would love to get a dollar for each of the 22 miles I am determined to complete! However, even the smallest of donations would be greatly appreciated.
*Until it’s done*
