There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. I walk for them, and of course for Aria and Jack, and hope you will support me in my efforts.
Real progress has been made in the search for a cure, but the lives of people with CF are still cut far too short. There still is no cure for this devastating disease. By walking today, I am helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis. Will you join me? Support me by making a donation to my Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
Here is an excerpt from an email that my niece, Adelina, sent several weeks ago:
We are happy to report our kiddos have been doing amazingly well after a few hiccups since last year. In the spring, Aria was diagnosed with nasal polyps (an extremely common condition in people with CF) that were causing her pain, discomfort and chronic sinus infections. She bravely underwent sinus surgery to remove the polyps and her adenoids in the summer which has greatly improved her condition. Unfortunately, during the surgery the surgeon found pockets of infection which ended up being pseudomonas aeruginosa, a dangerous bacteria that can cause a quick decline in lung function in people with CF. Aria was treated with a 3 month course of antibiotics and seems to have eradicated the bacteria for now. Since then, she can breathe easier and is no longer plagued with chronic sinus infections. It is probable the polyps will come back, but for now we are happy with this bit of relief! With Aria's pseudomonas aeruginosa infection we are once again reminded that CF is a beast that can unexpectedly rear its ugly head at any time. However, both Aria and Jack continue to fight more resiliently than ever, but we cannot guarantee we will always be this fortunate as Cystic Fibrosis continues to progress further. All we can do is continue to fight, continue to raise funds that will hopefully lead to the cure we have been hoping and praying for.
We thank you for all that you do, for being in our lives, but most of all for loving Aria and Jack like you do.
Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
