My Great Strides Story
After a one year hiatus, we are back in circulation for Great Strides! Turner completed his freshman year at TCU and is in relatively good health. But as many of you know, the past few years have been challenging health-wise.
In 2022, Turner was listed on the liver organ registry on June 3. Just 12 days later, we got THE CALL and went straight to Houston. In the wee hours of the morning on June 16 (my father's heavenly Birthday), Turner received his new, healthy liver at Texas Children's hospital. What a huge surgery and massive recovery! Jason and I stayed with Turner in Houston for 6 weeks that summer. We are forever grateful to his donor and family, his skilled medical teams, and the love, support, and prayers from so many near and far!
Yet, there is much more to be done. Turner's lungs continue to show disease progression. His pancreas is partially blocked as well, and he relies on daily insulin to help regulate his glucose numbers.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made extraordinary progress — including fostering the development of more than a dozen CF treatments — but these treatments are not a cure and not everyone can benefit from them. Turner lives with the rare mutations and is not eligible for the miracle, breakthrough drugs like so many of our CF friends.
Your support makes a difference. Every dollar counts.
By donating to my fundraising goal, you will help advance our mission for a cure for all. Please consider joining us and helping make CF stand for Cure Found. You are part of our team. We thank God for each of you.
With Love and Deep Appreciation,
Marian DeMott
