I have been involved with the CF foundation and Great Strides walk for several years. My passion for CF comes from my Aunt who suffered from the disease until it took her life at 34 years of age in 2001. I remember growing up watching her do her breathing treatments and also checking her blood sugar levels, and giving herself insulin injections with her diabetes related to CF. She was constantly coughing. Despite her struggle with CF she managed to put a smile on her face and mine and became my very best friend and the most incredible person. She had a heart of gold and she always put others before herself. I loved being around her, she was always so much fun. She never let her CF get her down. She was hospitalized many times at Cook Children's but still maintained her optimism and her positive outlook on life. She will always be an inspiration to me. When I have bad days I think of her strength and all that she suffered and endured and it gives me strength and hope. This is why I stride.
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. I walk for them and hope you will support me in my efforts. Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
Real progress has been for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. By walking today, I am helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis. Will you join me? Please consider making a donation to my Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
