Our son Cullen is one of about 30,000 Americans living with a rare genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis. Although the disease most notably effects the lungs, many people do not realize that CF effects the entire digestive tract as well. Over 90% of people with CF, including Cullen, are pancreatic insufficient and require digestive enzymes before every meal in order to absorb the nutrients in their food and gain weight. They must also do daily breathing treatments and Chest Percussion Therapy to help prevent the accumulation of thick mucus in their lungs as well as mitigate bacterial colonization. Many other daily medications are needed to help prevent infection in the lungs and other critical organ systems. While he may look healthy on the outside, his body is fighting a constant battle within.
Although so many Great Strides have been made to help those who suffer from this deadly disease, there is still no cure. Every dollar we raise will bring us one step closer to achieving this ultimate goal. Please join us in support of baby Cullen and his brave fight against Cystic Fibrosis.
Great Strides is a fun event that provides a fantastic opportunity for family, friends, students, and colleagues to come together in support of those living with Cystic Fibrosis.
To participate in the walk, just click on the "Join our Team" button. If you would just like to make a donation, you can select "donate to team member" under Cullen's picture or on the "Donate" button below these paragraphs, next to Mike or Ashley's name. 100% of the donations made to any member of this team will go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Cullen's name.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is an incredible organization that truly makes a difference in the daily lives of families that are fighting CF. They have helped make drastic advancements in medicine through research as well as provide financial support to help combat the high cost of medications and medical devices used on a daily basis. All the profits go back to helping find a cure for this disease and to continue helping families receive the medical treatments we all desperately need.
By joining our Great Strides team and making a donation, you will be part of a tenacious and passionate group of people committed to ending this disease. Together, let’s make CF stand for Cure Found!
Foundation-Sponsored Indoor and Outdoor Events and Gatherings
The Foundation is closely following the evolving coronavirus outbreak. We will continue to monitor coronavirus guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and assess whether we need to change any scheduled events.
To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow, and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function.
To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation's attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times.
