My story with Cystic Fibrosis started in September 2007. I’d just moved to Omaha, Nebraska for college and needed to find a job - this is how I met the O’Connell’s.
The O’Connell’s needed someone to watch their twin three-month-old boys, Miles and Liam, and three-year-old daughter, Olivia. The first day I met the O’Connell’s, Mary explained how things worked and her expectations, then she told me about Liam’s Cystic Fibrosis.
I did not know what CF was or how many people it affected. I was lucky enough to spend a substantial amount of time with Liam and his family from that day forward. Watching Liam grow up was both inspiring and eye-opening.
In May 2014, I made the exciting yet hard decision to leave Nebraska and move to Dallas. Leaving the O’Connell family was one of the difficult parts because they’d become a part of my family. After my move to Dallas, I wanted to continue to support and help families affected by CF, so in January 2015, I joined the planning committee for the North Texas Great Strides Walk and formed Liam’s Lightsabers.
