There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. Each day they spend a great deal of time and energy on treatments and medications that are necessary to give them quality and qauntity of life, and honestly, that give them a better chance of beating the odds of hospitalizations, transplants and shortened lives. As of right now, there is no cure for CF.
Of those 30,000 Americans fighting the daily battle to live a life as normal as possible, Jax is one of them. Think of your own child or grandchild and ask what you would do to give him/her more time and a healthy life. For me, this walk is very personal.
Cystic Fibrosis claimed the life of my older sister, Sandra Kay, before I was born. She was born at a time when there were no newborn screenings and the life expetancy of children with CF was grade school age. But this is not the same era. Now, many treatments are available for CF patients and many more are being developed. But medicine costs money. Research costs money. That is the reality. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been responsible for funding the majority of this research and because of this organization CF patients and their families have a lot of hope. Great Strides is a fundrasing walk hosted by the foundation each year. Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly walk event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families. Our families will do what we can to help Jax have a healthy life and extended life, so we will be walking in the Great Strides Walk in September. We would love to have you join us! We would love to have you donate! Please consider comitting to one or both today!
