Hello, my name is Kaylin Bendon and I am a 15 year old girl living with Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a hereditary, chronic lung disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. It causes mucus to build up in my lungs, making it more challenging to breathe. Some of the side effects of Cystic Fibrosis include a higher susceptibility to sickness, high salt loss when exercising, and poor growth.
The past couple years have been a struggle for everyone, especially people with lung deficiencies such as Cystic Fibrosis. The coronavirus impacted everyone's lives tremendously and it made doing normal, everyday things much more difficult. Before COVID-19 hit, I was living a pretty social life. I went to school, lots of volleyball, and spent time with my family and friends. In the year 2020-2021, I wasn't able to go to school like everyone else because of my disease. Not going to school made it very difficult to see my friends, like I otherwise would have every single day. The coronavirus also made it more difficult for me to participate in sports. I had to leave my volleyball team for a while because it wasn’t a safe environment in terms of COVID.
Thankfully, I am pretty much back in the full swing of things, apart from mask wearing. I still have to keep a mask on just to be extra safe! This year, I am a freshman at Notre Dame de Sion high school for girls, and I have been able to attend in-person school all year. I'm so grateful that I have been able to fully participate in what high school has to offer, including clubs, sports, and other activities. This year, I played school volleyball and also ran varsity track. I also continued my club volleyball career and was able to participate in that all year. Once again, I am so thankful that I am able to be back doing the things I love, while also getting to branch out and try new things!
Today, I am asking you to help me reach my fundraising goal by donating to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation! Thank you so much for supporting me through my battle with Cystic Fibrosis. I hope that you have an amazing day and stay safe!
Love,
Kaylin Bendon
