Our Great Strides Story

We walk for all those who suffer from and have died of cystic fibrosis. We walk for Lucas, who lives with its challenges every day.  We walk to gather in support of one another. 

Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs.  We can’t know what CF will hold for Lucas in the future, we do know it will get more difficult, the nature of a progressive chronic illness.  Today, Lucas does 1 – 4 hours of treatments and takes 4 medications daily.  The bacteria, Pseudomonas, has made its home in his lungs for more than a year.  He continues to cheerfully comply with all we ask of him to protect his future health. 

Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF.  Great progress has been made but the most elusive of all, A CURE, is finally within grasp.  Scientific advancements could bring Lucas and all living with CF a life free from the burden of this disease.
