Dear friends and family,
Growing up I remember adults talking about getting “over the hill” and joking about having themed parties to mark the occasion. Matthew had been plotting out his 40th birthday celebration for well over a year. This benchmark October birthday would have none of the “over the hill” themes, but instead was planned as an all out celebration of making it to 40, well that and the cult classic BMX movie Rad.
The night before the party we said good nights and talked about how things had come together so nicely. Everything was ready. The morning of the party however things were quite different. Matthew woke up to a body that was shutting down. He needed immediate emergency medical care that came in the form of an ambulance ride and surgery on his lungs. We are blessed to continue on this journey together as a result of doctors, surgeons, and research resulting from donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Though the journey has now taken a turn towards the unknown of lung transplant we embrace all future horizons.
Once a year I share our story, our gratitude, and the request that you share in this journey. In the past couple of years new scientific breakthroughs have occurred that are promising in the area of reversing the genetic mutation that causes Cystic Fibrosis. While these are promising they are not a cure yet and yet our hope is strong even better outcomes for the next generation of those with CF.
Please consider donating to the CF Great Strides Walk. http://fightcf.cff.org/goto/cfankhanel Any donation is welcome and appreciated; we ask you to consider a starting donation of $25.
