My Great Strides Story
We are the proud parents of Charlie, who was born with CF. Most parents find out prior to birth or at a birth screening that their child probably has CF, and then confirms it via sweat test. Our story is a little different. There was a mix up with how the birth screenings were entered by the state of Minnesota - Charlie’s numbers were entered as “normal” for the test that is done for CF. Fast forward 7 months, we got a random call from our pediatrician. They said there was an issue with his birth screening and Charlie needed to be tested for CF. We were in shock, denial and disbelief. He was a normal baby, minus the super raunchy smelling diapers (if you know, you know).
The tests came back positive and here we are.
We are blessed. Blessed that CF treatment and management has come such a long way. Blessed that Charlie has a wonderful temperament and is vigorously energetic. Most importantly, we are blessed that our friends and family have rallied around us with an immense amount of love and support. When we were able to do our first Great Strides Walk, that love and support raised our spirits and warmed our hearts.
