We're forming our third annual Trey's Tribe team for the CF Foundation Great Strides and hope that you will join us!
A little bit about Cystic Fibrosis (CF) As most of you know - Trey was born with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. CF affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat, and digestive juices. It causes these fluids to become thick and sticky, and plug up tubes, ducts, and passageways throughout the body.
A little big about Trey Beside his stunning good looks, Trey is quite the little fighter. He was diagnosed with CF before he was even born. With two rare CFTR mutations, it's the never-ending work of the CF foundation that has led to the advanced treatments and medications that Trey takes each day to minimize the effects of CF on his body. Over the past year, we've been able to reduce a number of his medications and he has had the healthiest year of his life! (maybe with a small thanks to this 11-months-and-still-going quarantine)
Join us for Great Strides 2021 As we are still dealing with COVID, and the CF population is at high-risk, there will not be an in-person event this year. BUT -- the CF Foundation has come up with a creative way to connect us all through a fun campaign. This eclectic group of Trey's Tribe is located all over the country, and being virtual means that everyone can participate! If you'd like to join us in the challenge, here is how:
Click "Join this team" on the left hand side of this page
Setup your team member page and set a fundraising and miles goal
Download the "Fight CF" app from your phone's app store. From there you can connect to Trey's Tribe as well as your step counter.
Fundraise!! Shout it from the mountaintops - let's make CF stand for CURE FOUND! A fun idea we are going to try out is asking folks to match a $$ amount for the number of miles we walk during the campaign (and look out - because Trey LOVES his walks).
The CF Foundation Metro Washington chapter will be hosting a virtual kickoff event on March 12, as well as a family-fun virtual event on May 15. Save the dates and keep an eye out for the invitations!
Optional: Order some SWAG And finally -- in our last attempt to raise as much money as we possibly can, we've set up an apparel campaign with a pretty sweet (and clever) assortment of gear for you to wear when you hit the sidewalk, trail or treadmill. Click the link below to order and items will be shipped to your home. All proceeds from purchases will go straight to the CF Foundation! https://www.bonfire.com/treys-tribe-2021/
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, indoor events sponsored by the CF Foundation are strictly prohibited at this time. Scheduled outdoor events must adhere to strict requirements to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection. Events may be subject to change at any time based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON ATTENDANCE AT OUTDOOR FOUNDATION EVENTS:
To minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection, attendees at CF Foundation events must adhere to the following requirements:
Practice physical distancing and maintain at least a safe 6-foot distance from persons outside of their household at all times
Face masks strongly encouraged and expected to be worn in accordance with local guidelines. (Note, children under two years of age should not wear masks due to safety concerns and therefore should not attend CF Foundation events where there is risk of interacting with someone outside of their household.)
Follow basic infection, prevention and control practices by regularly washing hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Persons with CF should consult their physician before participation in any in-person event as they may be at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. People with CF should maintain a safe 6-foot distance from persons outside of their household at all times.
