Cecila's CF Story

Hi, my name is Cecila Bliss, I am 5 years old and I have cystic fibrosis (CF). Me, my family and friends participate in the Detroit Zoo Great Strides Walk so we can help CURE this disease for thousands of people, just like me, living with cystic fibrosis.

I love to go on carousels, sing and dance for fun, take naps of course and my favorite food is cottage cheese. One of my favorite memories is going with my family to Disney World for my 5th Birthday and Make-a-Wish Trip! We had the best time and they even had a pretty cool carousel there! 

About Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. The symptoms can vary from person to person, and as people with CF live longer than ever before, sometimes our disease can become more complicated, leading to serious health issues.  

I was diagnoised with cystic fibrosis at just 6 weeks old. My twin brother is a carrier and my older sister doesn't carry the CF gene. My mom and dad work really hard to keep me healthy. I do breathing treatments, take lots of enzymes with my food, I stay active and I get to take a special medicine called Trikafta, which has changed my life. 

Trikafta is a modulator therapy which basically controls my cystic fibrosis symptoms. I still have to do hours of treatments to stay healthy but this special medicine will help keep me healthy until there is a cure for cystic fibrosis. 

Team Bliss supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation because they have made extraordinary progress — including fostering the development of more than a dozen CF treatments — but these treatments are not a cure and not everyone can benefit from them. Team Bliss will fight until there is a cure for everyone living with cystic fibrosis.

The Detroit Zoo Great Strides is on Sunday, May 5, 2024. Check in starts at 7:30 AM and the walk kicks off at 8:30 AM. In order to join us the day of the walk, please be sure to register for our team.
