There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. I walk for them and also for my daughter Lauren and grandson Isaac and hope you will support me in my efforts.
This year Lauren turns 40. She never expected to live this long as her life expectancy was a mere 8 years in 1978 when she was born. No, she doesn’t have a mild case. She’s a fighter and commits daily to live a good life. She is hampered by lung functions in the mid-50% and 4 hours of self-care medical procedures each day. Lauren has been a subject in cutting edge research to cure CF for over 10 years. Your dollars help!
Through her involvement with the science community, she has traveled the road of seeing the CF gene discovery in 1984 but the mutation which her husband Jehrod has wasn’t mapped until after their son, Isaac was born with CF in 2007. Can you imagine not only having CF, but also having a child with this terrible disease which affects the lungs and digestive system.
I thought I’d wind down in my fundraising during retirement, but I have to double-down because of my grandson, Isaac. I thought there would be a cure by now or that the unspeakable would have happened. Now, I walk without my dear husband, Vic. Parkinson’s disease has side-lined him!
Real progress has been made in the search for a cure for CF, but the lives of people with CF are still cut far too short. There still is no cure for this devastating disease. By walking today, I am helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis. Will you join me? Support me by making a donation to my Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
