My Great Strides Story
Why do I stride? I stride in memory of those who are no longer with us. The ones that paved the way for new and improved meds and treatments. I stride in honor of those currently fighting. I stride for me!
I was diagnosed as an adult. It explained so many things that I dealt with growing up. I don’t know of anyone on either side of the family that has it, so it was quite the shock to find out I was born with this invisible disease.
I am thankful that I have CF. I know it might sound crazy! Yes there is all the yucky stuff, but it has made me LIVE MY LIFE. I learned I am much stronger than I ever thought. I appreciate the small things and have learned not to sweat the small stuff (most of the time!)
CF does not define me! It’s just a part of me. I know I’m lucky to still be alive and as long as I am I will do what I can to make CF stand for CURE FOUND! Never give up!!!
Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who face the sobering prospect of a shortened lifespan. I walk for them. I walk for me.
Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF. Yet, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease – and we will not leave anyone behind.
