As some of you may or may not know, May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness month! Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic, genetic disease that affects 40,000 children and adults in the United States alone. It affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. The airways in the lungs can become filled with mucous which can lead to infections, inflammation, and respiratory issues.This month is particularly significant in the Southampton Montessori community in that one of our teachers, Ms. Southard, suffers from this disease. As such, we are asking that you and others you may know consider donating to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a non-profit organization and the world’s leader in the fight against CF. The foundation funds and accredits more than 115 CF care centers and 95 adult care programs while also funding research and drug development to help find new treatment and hopefully, eventually, a cure. On May 21st, 2023, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be hosting their annual “Great Strides Walk-A-Thon" in Holtsville, NY. We will be setting up a team on behalf of Ms. Southard in which you can donate to and register to “walk” virtually on the day of the event. All proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.We want to thank you so much for your unwavering love and support.
