Hi, family & friends!
After receiving a double-lung transplant at the end of last year, I've decided that breathing is definitely underrated. I'm so glad to understand what this hype is all about now. Getting this surgery doesn't mean I'm cured of CF, but it means I'm strong enough again to fight until there is one.
For the 20th straight year, I'll be participating in GREAT STRIDES, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's fundraising event to cure cystic fibrosis (CF). The Foundation has suspended the walk itself due to COVID-19 restrictions, but let me emphasize that fundraising for a cure is never canceled.
For the last year, my mom & I relocated to be near Duke University Medical Center, where I received my new lungs and took my first deep breath ever. This journey was challenging, but it's resulted in the best short-term losses for the long-term gain. [And yes, included in these challenges was living with my mom again, but we survived that, too. ;)]
Even though we're in the midst of practicing social distancing, let me remind you that my CF community has always lived by this mantra: We're stronger together. That includes you, my support system.
You can feel good that your donation will be well spent: More than 90 cents of every dollar raised by the CF Foundation is used to support its vital programs. Yay, research!
For those of you new to the cause & those who've been with me since day one, I hope you can support my efforts. My family & I offer our heartfelt thanks.
