It’s Great Strides time again, and I’m excited to be participating this year as a fellow volunteer in the fight against cystic fibrosis! I’ve had the privilege to serve alongside these families and friends to make a difference in the lives of those battling this life threatening disease. Together with volunteers all over the country and the CF Foundation, we have made tremendous progress, and added years to the life expectancy (now 50!! and beyond!!) as well as improved daily living through so many new treatments. I see children play football or soccer, be a gymnast or a cheerleader, despite literally hours every day for treatment and often 30 or more pills a day.

However, I have also lost dear friends to this disease – young adults not that much older than my own children. The saying is so true that someone comes into your life and touches your heart and you are never the same…. I am so very blessed to know and be inspired by the faith, strength and determination of these brave folks. So when you ask me Why I Stride, it is so this doesn’t happen anymore…that CF will stand for Cure Found, and no mother, father, spouse, sibling or friend’s time will be cut short with their loved one. So that those with CF can lead full lives, making plans for college, career, a family and retirement too.
