In 2023 Brandon ended up being in the hospital three times, January, May, and July. The first two hospitalizations he spent two half weeks in the hospital, on IV antibiotics and high flow oxygen as he fought this devastating disease. In July we ended up going to Northwestern Medicine Hospital again because of his lungs, but this time he was worse than ever before. At this point he was already on UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) waiting for a double lung transplant. While in the hospital he was going downhill fast. He was at a point where intubation was going to be the next step to give his body a rest. Within a couple of days, he moved into the number 1 spot on the UNOS lung transplant list. We are almost one year post transplant, and we thank GOD every day, and the donor family for their generous donation of these lungs which now enable Brandon to be a normal person. I cannot believe when I look at him now, this was the same kid that coughed and coughed and was tied to an oxygen tank 24/7. We are so grateful for the generous gift we have been given. I do not know where we would be if it was not for the donor family and the staff at Northwestern Medical Hospital. We also want to thank all the family and friends that kept Brandon in their prayers.
Brandon will soon be rejoining the workforce. He is looking forward to being back with his family at Advocate Medical Hospital where he will continue his work as a transportation team member.
Brandon no longer has CF in his lungs, but he still has CF which still affects other parts of his body. So, we need to continue to FIGHT this disease! I have always said that I will continue to fight this fight until CF stands for Cure Found. We need to fight so that Brandon has every chance to live his dream and help others.
