Join our team and help add tomorrows!
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. We walk for them and for our sweet Hannah. We hope you will support us in our efforts.
Hannah has several health issues caused by CF. She has had 14 sinus surgeries. She has liver disease and CF related diabetes. She takes hundreds of pills every month, insulin shots and spends about two hours a day doing respiratory therapy.
Since the walk last year, Hannah has been hospitalized six times for a total of 60 days. She has been fighting more lung infections and decreasing lung function. She had her gall bladder removed in November and on Thanksgiving she fell, fractured her skull and suffered a traumatic brain injury. She continues to struggle with some issues caused by the brain injury.
"In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients."
Real progress has been made in the search for a cure, but the lives of people with CF are still cut far too short. There still is no cure for this devastating disease. By walking today, we are helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis. Will you join us? Support us by making a donation to our Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
