In 2009 I was fortunate enough to meet Emily. Emily is smart, engaging, and has it all together. I told her Dad that I was going home to tell my then 12 year old son to "raise his game" because I had met the girl that I wanted him to marry. Clay's response stopped me in my tracks, "I just hope she lives long enough to get married". That was they day that Cystic Fibrosis hit me personally.
I later learned that Emily and my son were born on the same day in the same hospital and while Stacey and I were going home with a relatively healthy child, Emily and her family were beginning a life of treatment and adjustments to accommodate her CF.
Over the past few years, our firm has moved from one that is understandably concerned about Emily to the insurance industry being focused on the 70,000 people with CF and the amazing research that is going on. As CF makes progress with their research, things that they are learning are now helping people with COPD, MS, and Parkinson's diseases.
In just a few short years, our part of the walk-Insure the Cure has recruited walking teams and raised over $2,500,000 with over 50 teams participating annually.
I hope you and your family will join us for the Great Strides Walk in May so you can see first-hand the celebration of the folks that have joined together to fight this horrible disease.
Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
