Cystic fibrosis has affected my family twice now. Imagine finding the one other person in the world that shares the same recessive gene for CF as you do...now imagine that scenerio playing out twice, several generations apart, in the same family. This is the story in my family. We first learned that the CF gene was in our family when my beautiful cousin Alli was diagnosed as an infant. Alli lived an amazing story and touched the lives of all of those around her. Unfortunetly, Alli gained her heavenly wings at the age of 20. Fast forward 8 years to my first grandchild. Kodi was born with immediate complications of CF needing emergency surgery withing her first 24 hours of life. This precious child spent her first 8 weeks of life in the NICU. Our story is a familiar one among the CF community but I am confident that with the medication breakthroughs of recent that a cure is on the horizon! I plan to keep the faith and march on not only for the sake of my granddaughter but for all of those living everyday of their lives with this devastating disease.
For too long, cystic fibrosis, a rare, genetic disease, has robbed people of tomorrows – progressively limiting their ability to breathe and tragically shortening life. There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with CF. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers who struggle every day in the face of this devasting disease.
I walk for them. Will you join me and support my Great Strides fundraising goal?
Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short.
By walking with me in Great Strides, you can help accelerate the Foundation’s pursuit of new therapies and provide vital support to meet the needs of the CF community.
Please support me!
Your participation will help us get one step closer to ending this terrible disease. Let’s make CF stand for Cure Found.
