Dear Friends & Family!
I am hoping that you will join me in supporting Harper Kirby (one of my former students) and all those who struggle every day just to breathe, due to cystic fibrosis.
At 10 years old, Harper was already taking 14 pills and undergoing two 30-minute chest percussion treatments daily. She now has the onset of CFRD: Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, which means she must also get “pricked” daily to monitor her glucose levels. Supporting her health also means regular visits to a team of doctors and specialists, blood tests, chest x-rays, and more throughout the year.
Even so, in spite of these overwhelming challenges, she is always vivacious and approaches all things with tenacity. She is a true fighter in all aspects of her life. As a matter of fact, she always remains positive and grateful, silhouetting the essence of what truly is meaningful in life. Yet, what I admire most about her is her unrelenting support for the underdog.
It is because of her that this cause has become so near and dear to my heart. This is my third year participating and I’m impassioned with the strides the CF Foundation has made this year! Last month, Harper started a new drug, Trikafta, recently approved by the FDA in October, which will hopefully significantly improve her health and quality of life. The Kirby family are anxiously awaiting their next clinic appointment which is in March to see how the treatment is working.
Therefore, on April 25, I am walking again for her and all cystic fibrosis' fighters, and I sincerely hope that you will join me in supporting their efforts. Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. By walking, I am helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis.
