What is Cystic fibrosis (CF)? It is a genetic disease that affects 30,000 people in the United States each year. A defective gene causes the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that: clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas from allowing proper food absorption. The predicted median age of survival for a person with CF is in the early 40s.
Why this fundraiser? Great Strides is CFF’s largest and most successful national fundraising event. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar raised goes straight to research! Research and care funded by the CF Foundation are making a huge difference in extending the quality of life for those with CF. With recent modulator meds approved in 2019, life expectancy has increased but the entire population cannot benifit due to the many mutations of the disease. Your help is needed now more than ever to ensure that a cure is found.
How does this help Lauren? Lauren was diagnosed with CF at 5 months of age. She enjoys dancing, spending time with family and friends. Improved medications and therapies aids Lauren and other CF patients a chance to successfully fight CF.
How can YOU help Lauren? This year, we are walking in the Great Strides walk virtually on May 15th. Please help us meet our fundraising goal of $3,000.00 by sponsoring us. Making a tax deductible donation is easy. Choose one of the two methods:
