Spring 2022
Dear Family and Friends,
After 2 years of virtual events, we are returning to an “in person” Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk. The CF community has ensured the safety of all by having virtual events but feel the time is right to come together. We will celebrate the “Great Strides” that the CF Foundation has made and to raise money to support further research to find a cure. This past year we hit a new milestone with the median life expectancy of someone with CF reaching 50 years old!! We never imagined that number when our children were diagnosed. Despite this, there are still too many people losing their battle to CF each year. This is what motivates us to keep fundraising and support the CF Foundation.
Since the approval of Trikafta, the median life expectancy has increased, lung transplants and hospitalizations have decreased and the overall health of those taking Trikafta has improved dramatically allowing them to take less medications and require less respiratory treatments. However, Trikafta is not approved for everyone, so our challenge continues to find something to make CF stand for Cure Found! The CF Foundation has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into scientific research taking a multipronged approach investing in gene therapy, antibiotic development, CFTR modulators (such as Trikafta) and so much more.
Nicole, Dustin and Katelyn are all doing well and are staying healthy thanks to all these advancements. Nicole is a very busy mom of 2 boys, Dorian and Lucius, and an owner of a farm. There is never a quiet moment at her house. Dustin is putting finishing touches on his new home and will be moving in soon. He loves working in construction/home renovation and you can see the quality of his work in his home. Katelyn is a super mom to Jameson and is in the early stages of building her own home. So, as you can see our children are living a full life thanks to the advancements made by the CF Foundation.
Please help us by supporting the CF Foundation so they can continue this critical work for all living with CF. Our Poughkeepsie Great Strides Walk will take place on June 5th at Bowdoin Park with check in at 10 and walk at 11. Please join our family team “Curcio Family” for this day of celebration. If you are unable to attend and could support our team with a donation to the CFF we would be so grateful. You can register for the walk or donate online at fightcf.cff.org/goto/curciofamily or send a check to our home. For those on Long Island, we will also be walking in the Suffolk Great Strides Walk at the Holtsville Ecology Center and Zoo on May 15th with check in at 9 and walk at 10. You can join our team there at fightcf.cff.org/goto/curciofamilyLI or make an online donation.
Thank you for your continued support, love and prayers.
With love,
Georgette, Frank and Family
