My Great Strides Story
There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis. By participating in Great Strides, I am helping to end this disease for thousands of people impacted by CF. Cystic fibrosis affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. The symptoms can vary from person to person, and as people with CF live longer than ever before, their disease can become more complicated, leading to serious health issues.
My nephew Dale Joseph Van Name Jr. was diagnosed with CF when he was 5. Doctors and researchers didn't know too much about CF. Over the next 30 years he was sick and hospitalize too many times to count. He became a guinea pig for new treatments, he had been poked so many times it got to the point where he had to show the nurses where they might get a vein. NEVER once did he let CF define his life! In the summer of 2013 he started getting sick more often, his only option was a double lung transplant. On November 1,2013 he went for the surgery and was home by Christmas. THEN things changed, he spent the next 7 months in and out of the hospital. Sadly and with a heavy heart on July 31,2014 we said our goodbyes to our hero D.J Dude... Even if you can even spare a dollar can help us to make CF stand for CURE FOUND!!!!!!
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has made extraordinary progress — including fostering the development of more than a dozen CF treatments — but these treatments are not a cure and not everyone can benefit from them. We must keep going.
Your support makes a difference.
By donating to my fundraising goal, you will help advance our mission for a cure for all. Please consider joining us and helping make CF stand for Cure Found.
