For the last ten years, I have participated in the Annual Miami Lakes Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk. The last ten years, I would participate with the Quesada Family who would participate in honor of their son, Daniel. Daniel was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at a young age. Throughout my years of participating, Daniel and I developed a bond that soon grew into a friendship. From the moment our friendship came to be, I have always wanted to find a way to help spread awareness of CF to the community. Whenever Daniel and his family had events to help raise awareness, I made sure to tell eveyone I knew and posted to social media to encourage others to join in. However, during my time at Florida International University I wanted to do more.
It was there at FIU that i discovered that one of the main philanthropies associated within the Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority was the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Through Daniel's encouragement, I decided to run for the annual Campus Man Pageant that is held by the sorority to raise both funds and awareness for the CF Community. On March 25, 2019, I was blessed with the honor of being crowned Delta Phi Epsilon's Campus Man. Since then, I have continued my efforts to help raise awareness. Unfortunately, several months later Danny passed away. Although he is no longer here with us, his fighting spirit continues to live on. Along with his family, it is my hope to honor Daniel's legacy and continue to spread awareness in the hope that "CF" will finally stand for "Cure Found". Deep down we are all DQStrong. Danny, I hope to make you proud. Miss you everyday, little buddy.
