Dear Family & Friends,
It’s that time of year again to support our continued efforts to find a cure for Karen and many others affected by Cystic Fibrosis. The progress in the research is very exciting, and new drugs are now available to help treat CF, and they are that much closer to a cure. I hope you will consider helping us raise money to cure cystic fibrosis.
Here’s a Karen life update: Karen has changed her major at Red Rocks Community College from Radiology Tech to a double major: AS Psychology and AS Biology. She plans to transfer to CU Denver after finishing both degrees to get her BS in Psychology/Biology, and then she wants to apply to medical school and study neurology. From there, who knows? There are so many avenues that she can take from there, so we will see. She finds the medical world fascinating, especially neurology and the brain.
Oh yes! Karen made preliminary champ in her Irish dancing in October of 2022!
Karen’s health update: Overall, Karen is very healthy. She still has lingering tremors from the Trikafta that she took in 2020. In September 2022, she was diagnosed with CFRD (CF Related Diabetes), which she manages with low-dose insulin at meals.
Approximately 30,000 Americans are living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers who struggle daily to breathe. We walk for them and hope you will support us in our efforts. Real progress is being made in the search for a cure, but the lives of people with CF are still cut far too short. Unfortunately, there still is no cure for this devastating disease. This January 2023, a dear CF friend we met when Karen was six weeks old passed away at 24 from influenza, turning to pneumonia and stealing his life-a grim reminder that CF is no joking matter.
By walking with us (and/or supporting us with a donation) on May 13, 2023, you will be helping add tomorrows to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis. Will you join me? Please support me by donating to my Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
