Yesterday, our youngest granddaughter Audrey accomplished a HUGE milestone, the ability to swallow pills. For some, this might not seem to be a big deal but for Audrey, her parents and caregivers this is quite a game changer. Instead of opening 3 large capsules and 1 smaller capsule full of enzymes prepped to mix with a fruit puree - all that is now needed are the capsules, a bottle of water and Audrey’s awesome pill swallowing skills.
Whenever we are out together, Grandma went prepared. Our travel pouch stored little containers filled with pre-measured enzymes, fruit pouches, a cup to mix everything in and a serving spoon. The pouch will get smaller but the regime will continue, not for a week, month or year - these drugs are necessary for her to thrive for life. Last May, it was approved for Audrey to take a morning and evening dose of the CF modulator Trikafta. It has been a game changer for her and others that are able to benefit from it. There are others with CF that have an incompatible gene mutation or unable to tolerate the drug. For these people, they still need and deserve a game changer like Audrey. The CF Foundation and researchers are close to helping those individuals. You can help them and others with CF by making a donation to OUR TEAM!
