There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. My sister, Alyssa, was one of them. Alyssa tried so hard to not let CF affect her life. She rode horses, traveled to Aruba, Costa Rica and Scotland with her bestest of friends, she doted on her nephew who was her world and loved all of those who entered her life! But CF WAS affecting her. It took a lot of energy for her to get up and get dressed and she always described breathing as if she were breathing through a straw. My sister, my best friend, lost her battle with CF in October of 2020. I will forever fight this fight for her!
For as many years as I can remember, my family has put every bit of energy we had into fighting this battle. My parents sat on the board of the CF Foundation of Harrisburg trying to do everything in their power. Real progress has been made in the search for a cure. Revolutionary drugs have been produced as money has been raised for research. These drugs have started to be able to save the lives of those with CF. The cure still is not found, but we are so much closer than we were even just 10 years ago.
