Happy 2022 Everyone!
I hope you all have stayed safe from yet another year of COVID and having to live life a little differently. But as most things go, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
My 2021 was calm and quiet for the most part but that isn’t always a bad thing, right? However, in December, I broke my right leg and had to miss out on participating in many things including hanging out with friends to ring in the New Year. Due to my injury, undergoing surgery to fix it, and over 2 months of no walking/driving, I relied heavily on the medication, Trikafta, to get me through. I was not able to do my normal routine of getting exercise. Taking my dog, Reese, on multiple long walks a day is my #1 way of getting airway clearance. I was sedentary for so long that when I had my regular CF clinic visit at Johns Hopkins, I was nervous about what my lung function number would be, and if it would change for the worse. Low and behold, this “Cystic Fibrosis miracle medication” proved, once again, why it is such an important drug for me! I was able to maintain my normal lung function of mid 70’s even with being a couch potato for so long. I can’t begin to tell you how relieved and happy I am to know that Trikafta “has my back” when life throws these curveballs my way.
For those with CF like me, production of new medications and treatments like Trikafta shows that your money and time does not go unnoticed or wasted. Every year, my family and I appreciate your support. It is a very special time in my life. After a 2-year cancellation due to COVID, I am looking forward to having the CF Great Strides walk IN PERSON this year. I am excited to see what 2022 brings!
