Our Great Strides Story
My family and I are walking on May 18th, 2024 in the Mohawk Valley Great Strides Event, which is part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). Part of their mission is to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis (CF), and help people with CF to lead long fulfilling lives by funding drug and research development. They also provide care for people with CF through their nationwide network of care centers. The CFF also helps families get the tools and support they need such as medical, educational and financial resources.
A few facts from the CFF:
They fund more innovative, groundbreaking CF research than any other organization in the world
Nearly every drug currently available for CF was made possible through foundation support
The life expectancy of someone with CF has DOUBLED in the last 30 years
CF was once considered a childhood disease, but now approximately half of all people living with CF are over 18
As of 2022 the CFF is funding more programs in drug development than ever before
If you’ve made it this far and have no idea what CF is, google will tell you it is a genetic, life shortening disorder that damages the lungs and digestive system. It can be a bit more complex that but I’ll let everyone do their own research. So why are we doing this? And why do we care? Because my younger sister Emma is 14, and she is 1 of the 105,000 people worldwide diagnosed with CF. So we walk in support of her
