It is time to get ready for Doylestown's Annual Great Strides Walk which will take place again at Lake Nockamixon on May 18, 2019. Registration will start at 8:30 and we walk at 10am!
We walk to celebrate Megan, our beautiful 17 year old daughter, and to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Megan was diagnosed with this devastating genetic disease at birth and has been fighting ever since. But she doesn't let her disease limit her. She does at least 2 hours of breathing treatments a day, takes over 40 pills a day and manages nutritional needs with a large diet and feeding tube at night. Even with all of this to do, she manages to act in several plays at school and in the community, sing, hang with friends and balance all she needs to do with her everyday school requirements, too. She now drives and works part time as well. She is an amazing girl who deserves a cure along with all of the remarkable kids who fight every day.
Last year Megan started the newest version of Kalydeko called Symdeko. This drug offers less side effects with the same results as her previous drug, Orkambi, if not better. This is genetic modifier, essentially correcting the disease defect. We cannot believe how close we are to a cure! This new drug is opening doors to even more cutting edge treatments that will one day give Megan the freedom to live a "normal" life. But it is NOT a cure, not yet, so we continue to fight.
We have committed to raising funds every year for this cause so near to our hearts and are asking for your help again in raising support for research to cure this deadly disease. You can join Team Meggers on line and raise donations for a cure. It's easy, it's fun and it will help save Megan's life. There are treatments and drug therapies that have changed the outcome of this once deadly disease and we know our efforts will make Megan's life long and full.
If you can't join us, please consider making a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Making a donation on-line is easy and secure! Just click the "Donate to me" button on this page to make a donation that will be credited to Team Meggers. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated! Feel free to pass this along...we would love for your friends and family to be a part of history.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with CF like Megan. Last year we raised over $10000 between the walk and the Xtreme Hike and we hope to surpass that in 2019. Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation and Great Strides! But more importantly, thank you for praying and being with us as we watch Megan grow. Help us find a cure soon and be part of Team Meggers today! Foundation-Sponsored Indoor and Outdoor Events and Gatherings
The Foundation is closely following the evolving coronavirus outbreak. We will continue to monitor coronavirus guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and assess whether we need to change any scheduled events.
To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow, and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function.
To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation's attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times.
