My Great Strides Story
I was born with Cystic Fibrosis but I won't let it define me or hold me back. I play softball, have a red belt in karate, and just played Moana in our school play. I like riding my bike, swimming, and hiking in the woods with my friends. My family has participated in Great Strides since they first learned about it when my older brother Miguel was born. Over the last 15 years our family has raised close to a million dollars toward research to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis by participating in: Great Strides, the CF Stair Climb, Shoot for a Cure, and Grapes and Grain SJ. We will not stop until there is a cure for everyone with CF.
Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who face the sobering prospect of a shortened lifespan. I walk for them.
Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF. Yet, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease – and we will not leave anyone behind.
