I was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at just a few months old. At that time, life expectancy wasn't all that great at around 18 years. With all of the amazing effort from donations by people like you to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation there have been many new treatments that have become available since then that have allowed many people with this disease, like myself, to thrive. Due to these advancements in medicine/science the life expectancy is now over 37 years of age. Any donations to this great cause are greatly appreciate by both me and all of those others who have been impacted by this disease from the many children and adults with the disease to the friends, family, children, and loved ones who have a connection with someone who has this disease.
In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients. There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. I walk for them and hope you will support me in my efforts. Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
Real progress has been for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. By walking today, I am helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis. Will you join me? Please consider making a donation to my Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
