My 8-year-old granddaughter, Reis, is one of the lucky ones. She has benefitted from medicines that have become available to her starting at age 2, largely thanks to the research supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The science behind these medications are amazing in how they address and correct issues at the cellular level. These medications, combined with the care of her famiy and doctors, resulted in Reis living a full and active life, being spared the worst symptoms of cysitc fibrosis. But it is not a cure. And there are so many children and adults for whom these particular medications do not work.
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who struggle every day just to breathe. I support this fundraising campaign not just for Reis, but for them. Will you join me and support my fundraising goal?
It is my hope and prayer that a cure for cystic fibrosis will be discovered in my lifetime.
